Who Begat Whom

Writer's picture: Shawn-WWJDShawn-WWJD

I do love reading the stories of the Bible in the Old Testament. I thrive on knowing where we came from and our history. Some of it is gripping and entices me to want to read more. Some of it gets really boring, especially reading about the Old Laws and the genealogy parts.

Why in Matthew do we get the who begat whom? It shows us the lineage of Jesus from Adam. It tells the story of how God's promise of sending the Messiah came to be. In the early genealogy, it tells us the history of the Twelve Tribes of Israel and how they came to be. There are many lists of families and generations that all lead to an answer to something.

It is really boring to read, but it puts the pieces of the big puzzle together for me. I know where Africans came from, Ham, one of the sons of Noah. I am a white boy, so I came from the line of Japheth, as did the Asians. Islam, Muslims, and the Jews are all Semites and hail from the lineage of Shem. Isn't it ironic? Those Semites be fighting like they are family.

It is not so boring now that I know where we all came from and how today's world came to be. It gives me ammo when someone says something stupid about who is right or wrong in the Middle East. I know the facts. God gave them to me in His Word.

Do you read the boring stuff in the Bible? Leviticus and Numbers both kill me. So boring. Leviticus gives me a better understanding as a Gentile into the world of the Jews. Numbers tells me where everyone came from.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the boring parts of your Word that give us the whole truth. Thank you for showing us the proof of your promises fulfilled even though we were not there. I pray that our hearts and minds will stay open to your Word. I pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.

Thank you everyone for being here. I love all you guys. WWJD For Life! 🥰
