I was not very good at enduring temptation. I still struggle every day. Before I was a Sold Out Christian those temptations are what led me around like a donkey chasing the carrot on a stick. I followed anything that appealed to my emotions. If it feels good do it.
Well, if it felt good, I did it, and it led to a life of Hell. I did not know how to escape the whirlwind of stuff that makes me feel good. It became painful. I sucked at rejecting the things that were hurting me. It did not matter if it was drugs, women, music, movies, or whatever else Satan has for me to boost my ego.
Things began to change when I decided to start focusing on the things God would have me think about. Once I decided to put myself aside and Jesus first then I was finally able to deny temptation. I know how to reject the things of this world because I know why.
God has saved me through all of my selfish living. I was given another chance to show my gratitude. The temptation I am confronted now is met with prayer and scripture. I might still get angry or desire a woman who is not my wife but that is short lived. I can get rid of that bait Satan has put out for me by just praying and remembering what the Corinthians letter said.
13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
How do you reject temptation? I pray and think of fluffy bunnies or my dog to take my mind free from selfish desires. I think of what can I do to show my love for Christ today. I reject Satan with the help of Jesus. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the strength to reject temptation when Satan throws it at us. Help us to keep our eyes on the good you have given us. Thank you for your Word that shows us how to deny the self. Let our lights shine for those who are crippled by the feel good and can not find a way out. I pray this in Jesus name, Amen.
