I used to think I should listen with my heart. I had no clue that my own heart was what was misleading me. I would try to pay attention to others for their sake and it always felt like something was missing.
I thought I was listening to what was going on around me but, it turns out I was selective listening. I had bad confirmation bias. I had my heart closed up tight to anything unfamiliar.
Once I made the big change and quit drinking. I learned that this world is all about others and not one bit about me. I had to have an open heart so I could learn how to love everyone. By knowing God I know my heart is right. I have learned how to listen to it through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.
I no longer selectively love people. I love them all. I am way better at listening to people even though I still forget names. I pray for everyone's salvation not just the folks I like but, especially the ones I tend to dislike.
Is your heart open to the will of God for your life? It is tough to hear it for me sometimes. This world is cloudy and noisy. I do trust God will guide me since I am his and I know Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, Please let our hearts hear your will for us in our lives. Thank you for giving us the willingness to be shiny for you. Help us to focus on You and on others. Keep ourselves out of the picture. I pray this in Jesus name, Amen.
